Spring Social 2019 – 25th April

Last night was a great success, with 20 ‘skittlers’ turning up for the SYBA Spring Social!

It was an electric atmosphere in the clubhouse as the players loosened up for the game. When I say loosen up, there wasn’t much dynamic stretching or lunges, more flexing the bowling elbow at the bar.

Held at Yate Town FCs clubhouse, the alley was polished up and balls carefully checked over by the wood-wizard himself, Bernard of Bernards Barrels. It may have been purely coincidental, but a piece of sandpaper was later found tucked behind the scoreboard, no-one knows whether it was used to tamper with the balls, so the Match Ref let it go.

The two teams, decided at random, were captained by Jana (Monsters Balls) and Bernard (Bernies Beauties) who demonstrated their competitive nature during the evening.

The teams in a group huddle.

Rob John and Iain Prior of Yate Town FC gave us a good overview of the football club before the kick off and Jana got the balls rolling just after 7.

At the halfway stage, Monsters Balls were in front by 5 and Jana was in buoyant mood. Bernard took to the buffet, not getting flustered by the sledging from his opposition captain and focused on getting stuck into the pasta.

As the skittles got back underway, the pendulum swung as Bernies Beauties dominated the second half with some aggressive bowling from Matt Days, Hazel Weyman and Martin Weaver.

There were some excellent raffle prizes kindly donated, the proceeds of which will be going to our chosen charity YOSC.

Many thanks to the staff at Yate Town Football Club for their hospitality and buffet.
