30 golfers took to the course at the Thornbury Golf Centre last Thursday (29th June) for the second annual golf event organised by SYBA member, Carole Yearsley, in aid of the Brain Tumour Support Charity.

After last year’s torrential downpours when sou’westers and wellies were in order, players donned bandanas and caps to keep off the June sun. Bacon butties were handed out before tee-off and much needed refreshments – all donated by supporters and local companies, were on offer at the 10th hole.

Playing in teams of four, golfers battled it out for a prizes for nearest the pins, longest drive, worst shot of the day and best individual and team scores. Rivalry was fierce but friendly and the day ended with prize-giving at the 19th hole, and the drawing of the raffle.

The day was a great success and, in all, contributions raised over £1,400 for the charity. Huge thanks go to everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets (Glyn Rushent, Wendy James and Jana Mas get a special mention here!), made cakes or came along on the day to help out (thanks Lou Elliott, Esther James, Debbie Nichol and Linda Banister), and to Rich McD for taking photos of the event. Special thanks go to the British Corner Shop company who donated cakes, drinks and crisps to the 10th hole cake stall and to all our SYBA members who sponsored a round:
